Tourists are making a beeline for the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project, in Jayashankar Bhupalapalli district in the state.

The project site is located at the confluence of rivers Saraswathi (Anthervahini), Pranahitha and Godavari, which is called ‘Triveni Sangamam,’ on the borders of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and Telangana state.

The government is also focusing on the beautification of the project site to attract visitors.

The project, which is under construction, is located on the state borders and surrounded with forested hills.

Recently, a large number of Telangana Rashtra Samiti Karmika Vibhagam (TRSKV) leaders visited the project site.

A team of journalists from Hyderabad visited the site in the recent past. On Sunday, a team of TRS party activists and leaders led by the Janagam MLA, Mr M. Yadagiri Reddy, and a team of journalists of Sangareddy led by the district collector, Mr Vasam Venkateshwarlu, visited the project site.

TRSKV state secretary Vijjagiri Narayana, who recently visited the project site, said members of farmers associations were visiting the site to see the project, which is considered an engineering marvel and emerging lifeline to the North Telangana region as far as irrigation is concerned.

Due to security reasons,  visitors are not being allowed into tunnels where the work is in progress, but one can see the construction works at the ground level.

“Safety and security arrangements were in place to avoid any untoward incident,” said Mr Narayana. Site engineers brief the visitors on the project and its salient features at the top of the site view.

TRS activists and second rung leaders are mounting pressure on their respective MLAs and MPs and ministers to arrange a tour of the project site.

Forests minister Jogu Ramana, is planning to take around 250 farmers in buses from his constituency to see the project.

TRS leaders are encouraging farmers or other people to visit the project to instil in them the importance of project and its benefits and steps taken for the welfare of the farmers of North Telangana farmers by the Telangana state government.

The TRS and the government want to take political mileage from the project and hence they are keen on arranging visits for farmers and others.

Mr Ramana and finance minister Etala Rajender inaugurated the wooden house in the Mukthi Vanam Forest Park near Kaleshwaram on Sunday.
