The Civil Supplies department issuing suspension orders to 17,000 ration dealers across the state became a controversy. Officials have decided to utilise the services of women’s self-help groups for distribution of essentials to beneficiaries as ration dealers will be on strike from July 1 onwards. As per the Food Security Act, the Telangana government said that ration dealers have a responsibility to distribute essentials to the poor. The main demand of ration dealers was that the government should pay them monthly salaries and release of Rs 600 crore dues. Ration dealers are to approach the High Court against suspension orders.
