Police have arrested Mr Ramdev Chaitanaya, a self-proclaimed astrologer, for cheating an Andhra Pradesh-based man of Rs 21.95 lakh and 305 grams of gold ornaments in the name of performing puja to help him solve his problems, SR Nagar police said.

According to police, Mr Jayshankar Bushanama, 53, from came across Mr Ramdev Chaitanaya after watching his TV shows in 2015. He approached Mr Chaiatanaya in 2016 along with his family while he was facing some personal issues and was told that his daughter Laxmipani Jothirmai had some astrological problem.

On the pretext of performing puja to solve the astrological problem, Mr Chaitanya asked for six gold bangles of 240 grams which were kept in a pot and the family was advised not to touch it.

Mr Chaitnaya then asked for more gold bangles and cash in the name of completing the puja and Mr Jayshankar obliged.  Mr Chaitnaya even demanded for additional money to help build a temple. After taking away all the money and gold, he went into absconding since December 2016.

Mr V. Ajay Kumar, additional inspector of SR Nagar police station, said that Ramdev Chaitnaya has been handed over to Cyberabad police as there are multiple cases registered against him in different areas of Cyberabad.
