Hyderabad: The BJP on Wednesday termed the externment of Kakinada Sri Peetham seer Swami Paripoornananda from Hyderabad for six months as “externment of Hindus.” It alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was resorting to the extreme step at the behest of the MIM.

The BJP leaders met Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to complain against Mr Rao, and to request him to revoke the externment of the pontiff.

Secunderabad MP Bandaru Dattatreya said, “Swamiji was externed without any reason. The state government is functioning in a very undemocratic manner. The rule should be same for all. Why are some people spared when they hurt the sentiments of Hindus with their derogatory remarks?”

BJP leader G. Kishan Reddy said, “The government has been blatantly misusing power. It should clarify on what grounds it resorted to the house arrest of Swamji.

The government said the swami was externed from the city. Who gave the police the power to extern him from Telangana state and forcibly leave in Kakinada?”

Strongly condemning the measure on the pontiff, BJP state president Dr K. Laxman said, “The government should first initiate action against MIM leaders who made derogatory remarks on Hindu gods and goddesses and for hurting the sentiments of Hindus. The externment of Swami Paripoornanda shows who is running the TRS government from behind.”

He said, “We view the externment of the swami as externment of Hindus. We demand that the government immediate revoke the decision and withdraw all cases against him.”
