The secretary of Telangana Judo Association B. Kailasam Yadav was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau in connection with the fraud that surfaced in admissions to MBBS course under the sports quota on the basis of bogus certificates in 2017-18.

He is the second person to be picked up by the ACB within a month after the arrest of a deputy director of Sports Authority of Telangana State (SATS) G. Venkata Ramana.

An ACB release said Venkata Ramana was found to have used Yadav as a conduit to demand and collect bribe amount from parents of students in the name of arranging seats.Investigation revealed that out of 11 medical seats under sports quota in 2017-18 (excluding one for a non-local candidate), seven seats went to candidates from Warangal district. Yadav is a native of Warangal. Out of the seven seats, four seats were bagged by students in judo sport alone.

On a complaint lodged by Thota Sunil Kumar, father of Thota Rudraswaroop who was allotted medical seat under sports quota, the ACB registered a second case of bribery against Venkata Ramana and Yadav on Thursday. Venkata Ramana has already been arrested in the first case and remanded in judicial custody.“Venkata Ramana demanded ?4 lakh from Sunil Kumar though Yadav for arranging MBBS seat and collected 2 lakh. He was pressuring the student for the balance amount,” Mr Rao said.

Further, the ACB officials conducted searches at the judo association office in LB Stadium here and at the residence of Yadav at Qila Warangal. It may be recalled that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao handed over investigation into the medical admissions to the ACB when the irregularities were detected. The State government had more recently tightened norms for admission to the professional courses under sports quota this year but the admissions were stayed by the High Court.
