The Telangana police are making efforts to rapidly roll out CCTV projects in all of its 31 revenue districts, right up to the village level, across the State.

The development comes after the Hyderabad police recorded a significant reduction in the overall crime rate — by 32 per cent to be precise — over the last three years, all thanks to the city’s CCTV network.Stating this while addressing a Statewide conference of stakeholders of the Community CCTV Project here on Saturday, Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy said the aim was to install 10 lakh CCTV cameras in GHMC limits and 15 lakh for the entire State, including the civic body’s areas, in the next three years.

The meeting — attended by CCTV Integrators from the 31 districts, all Commissioners of Police, District Superintendents of Police, Zonal DCPs, IT Cell in-charges and CCTV administrators from 830 police stations across the State — saw the DGP stressing uniform standards for the cameras.CCTV acted as a force multiplier in Hyderabad, he said, adding that each CCTV had the potential of 100 police personnel. “It always speaks the truth; it never lies. Through CCTVs, the City Police was able to demonstrate the certainty of being caught and punished for every offender who commits a crime in the city,” he said.

Pointing out that the rate of conviction shot up in Hyderabad, Mahender Reddy said the city was “completely free” from group clashes for the last four years, primarily on account of massive CCTV presence on its streets. With the help of technology, especially CCTV, all major sensational crimes were resolved in a span of 24-48 hours in the last four years.

All cameras will be connected to local police stations and District Command and Control Centres, and from there to the Central Integrated Command and Control Centre at Banjara Hills, which is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2018.Home Minister N Narsimha Reddy launched a short film on the Nenu Saitham Project of the Cyberabad Police on the occasion.
