The State government will establish about 1,000 Basthi Dawakhanas across Hyderabad to cater to the medical and health needs of growing population of over one crore, said Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao. He emphasised the need for a Basthi Dawakhana for every 10,000 people in the city.

Despite the incessant drizzle in the city, the Minister conducted a surprise visit to Shyamlal Building Basthi Dawakhana at Begumpet on Saturday and interacted with the patients and the staff. He sought feedback from patients and locals about the services being offered at the hospital and assured to improve the facilities.

“We are ready to provide all facilities necessary to cater to the needs of locals. We are also opening government diagnostic centres in the city in a phased manner. All the Basthi Dawakhanas will be linked to these diagnostic centres to offer free services to patients. Necessary arrangements will be made to collect samples from patients at local dispensary and transport them to nearby government diagnostic centres for carry out tests,” he said.

Interacting with patients, Rama Rao patiently heard their grievances and suggestions for improving health services. He directed the authorities to ensure functioning of the Basthi Dawakhana till at least 4 pm every day as per a request from the patients who otherwise expressed their happiness over hospital services. He also inquired with the hospital staff about their suggestions on the operations. The authorities informed that around 40-50 out-patients were being treated at the Basthi Dawakhana every day and in case of emergency, they are being referred to major government hospitals like Osmania and Gandhi Hospitals.

Feasibility study for BRTS soon

After the Hyderabad Metro Rail, the State Government is exploring the possibilities of introducing other modes of public transportation in the city. Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao on Saturday tweeted that a feasibility study would be conducted for a Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) in the busier areas of Hyderabad at the earliest. The tweet was in response to Qutbullapur MLA KP Vivekanand’s tweets requesting the Minister to consider a feasibility study for introducing BRTS in Qutbullapur constituency.

The MLA had requested for a feasibility study for BRTS from the Moosapet Metro station to Dundigul, Outer Ring Road. After the Minister tweeted saying a feasibility study would be conducted for busier areas in the city, the MLA thanked him and replied: “It is going to be a boon to the commuters.”
