City police warns to stop modify silencers

The Hyderabad police has warned youngsters against modifying the silencers of Bullet motorcycles to produce annoying cracker sounds. The warning comes after complaints from several quarters to both the traffic and law and order police stations about the nuisance.Motorcycle owners remove the company-fitted silencer and replace it with a pipe available in the market. “While the company fitted silencer has three filters to reduce noise, the ones available outside only minimally muffle the sound. It is dangerous when a rider holds the clutch and accelerates simultaneously,” said Shiva Kumar, a motorcycle mechanic at Secunderabad. 

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) V. Satyanarayana said the police would be registering cases against persons disturbing peace. “The vehicles will be seized and released only on court directions,” he said. He warned of action against mechanics who modify the motorcycles.Mr Arun Sharma, an automobile engineer, said that the change of silencer can affect engine performance and reduce shelf life.
