6 districts to be irrigated by Kaleshwaram project

The Centre on Monday said it had not received any proposal from the Telangana state government seeking financial assistance for the Kaleshwaram project.Though the Chief Minister and Mr Harish Rao have submitted several representations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union ministers seeking financial assistance, Mr Meghwal’s clarification showed that the state government had only submitted representations to the Centre but had failed to send an official proposal to pursue the case with the Centre. 

About the final clearance for the project, Mr Meghwal said, “The Kaleshwaram project has been recommended by the advisory committee of ministry of water resources in its 136th meeting held on June 6, 2018, at an estimated cost of Rs 80,190.46 crore (price level 2015-16).”He said the project had a culturable command area (CCA) of 7,38,851 hectares (new) plus 7,62,028 hectares (stablisation) and annual irrigation of 9,61,498 hectares. “It is to provide irrigation in six districts namely undivided Adilabad, Karimnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Nizamabad and Ranga Reddy.”
