About 63 private and corporate junior colleges located in Hyderabad, Medak and Rangareddy districts have failed to receive their affiliation from Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) this year. According to Secretary, BIE, A Ashok, the colleges were not granted affiliation because they failed to get no objection certificate from the Fire department.

Speaking to press persons on Monday, Ashok, said the issue of 63 colleges was referred to the Fire department, which did not issue NOC. Permission from the Fire department is mandatory to grant affiliation for any private and corporate college in the State. The BIE Secretary said that the College managements were directed to shift colleges to different buildings which are equipped with fire safety equipment so that the Fire department can issue the mandatory certificates. However, many colleges were unable to comply and could not get the NOCs. In all, this year, about 1,350 private junior colleges have been granted affiliation.

On permissions for maintaining hostels, Ashok said only 20 private junior college managements have approached the Board. The BIE has decided to regulate hostels being run from the campuses of private and corporate junior colleges in the State and accordingly had called for applications from the managements. Though the Board has reduced fee for the grant of permission to run hostels on and off the campuses, the managements have not approached, he said, adding that soon a meeting would be conducted to initiate action against colleges which do not have permission for hostels.

While the BIE was ready for online admissions in all the junior colleges, the State government is yet to give a green signal for the same, he added.
