Members of the BJP’s student wing ABVP, other student organisations and relatives of 16-year-old Anusha staged a protest outside Narayana College in Narayanguda on Wednesday. Anusha, a student of Narayana College was allegedly murdered by Venkat, a student of Chaitanya College on Tuesday evening. Venkat was believed to be her former boyfriend.

The protest held on Wednesday morning, alleged that the management of Narayana College knew about Venkat’s visits to Anusha in and around their campus and failed to notify her parents. The management should also call and inform parents about other students’ activities, apart from academics, they demanded.Kacheguda ACP, Laxminarayana, said the girl and boy were Intermediate students from different colleges but both hailed from the same locality.

“Anusha, 16, a student of Narayana College, Nar-ayanaguda branch, was allegedly in a relationship with Venkat, 18, also an intermediate student from Chaitanya College of Himayat Nagar branch for the past two years.

On Tuesday, the boy called her up and wanted to meet her. Anusha arrived with a friend who had to leave. Venkat then took her to an isolated place near the abandoned railway quarters and  argued. As they could not resolve their differences verbally, he pulled out a blade he had brought with him and slit her throat,” said the official, adding that as he was escaping, locals caught him, thrashed him and handed him over to the Osmania University Police.

Speaking about the protest, Achyuta Rao, president of Balala Hakkula Sangham, said that the main motive of the crowd was asking the management to get more involved in a student’s life apart from academics.

Friend regrets leaving them

A common friend of the two students, Anusha and Venkat, was initially present with them and later left them alone, a decision she is regretting ever since.“If only I had stayed there with them, maybe he would not have attempted anything so brutal, how can one even anticipate anything like this to happen?” asks a sobbing friend who left the two alone. The girl further said that Venkat had just called Anusha to sort things out between them and did not sound suspicious, inspector of Osmania University G. Jagan said. “She is in a state of shock upon learning what happened to Anusha after she left,” he said.
