Telangana govt to spend 6K cr for BC welfare programmes

Telangana Chief Secretary S K Joshi said on Thursday that the government would be spending Rs 6,000 crore on the implementation of the welfare programmes aimed at benefiting the Backward Classes during 2018-19.Speaking at a review meeting on the implementation of welfare measures with officials concerned here, Joshi explained that Rs 1100 crore was allocated for tution fee reimbursement for BCs and EBC students, Rs 487 crore towards the maintenance fee for the BC students, Rs 60 crore for the Mahatma Jyothi Pule overseas education scheme and Rs 700 crore for the Kalyana Lakshmi scheme. 


In all 46,250 brides from the backward classes were extended financial assistance under the Kalyana Lakshmi Programme during the wedding. As many as 119 BC residential schools were opened so far in the State. The government was supporting the education of 1,34,000 students admitted to the 450 pre-metric 250 post metric hostels being run by the department in the State.


Chief Secretary hoped that the BC residential schools and colleges would achieve better results this year too. As many as 5,76,000application were received from different BC corporations and the applications were being graded to make out the eligibility of the applicants concerned.
