The Congress party on Saturday accused the State government of a ‘conspiracy’ with respect to the decision to keep its national president Rahul Gandhi away from Osmania University. It may be recalled that the party had said that students’ unions from OU had invited Rahul Gandhi for an interaction on the campus but permission for the meeting was denied by the university authorities.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly K Jana Reddy told reporters here that the State government was trying to sabotage Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the city by encouraging protests against it.

Jana Reddy was joined by the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka who described the decision to bar Rahul Gandhi from visiting OU as one in poor taste.“The OU is not a prohibited place. It is a centre with human resources that can provide direction and guidance to the society. How can such a place be off limits for the leader of the party that made Telangana State possible?” he asked.

Vikramarka added that the government must allow the visit to OU and if it does not, “we will break the chains at the gates and go into the university.”
