The Students Union of Osmania University (OU) on Monday took out a procession holding red roses to welcome Congress president Rahul Gandhi to the land of Telangana, saying that he is the son of the person who granted separate statehood to Telangana. The students took out the procession from the OU Library to the Arts College on Monday, but they were stopped by personnel from OU police station.

A leader of the Students Union, Mr Koturi Manavata Roy, said the TRS government's opposition to the welcoming of Mr Gandhi, who has the support of crores of people in Telangana, was an example of its “cheap politics”.

"We condemn the police action in stopping our rally while they permitted the TRS Student Wing to take out a Black Flag Rally," Mr Roy said. Students Union leaders Mr Koturi Manavata Roy, Mr Chanagani Dayakar, Mr Narayan Khed Sivraj, Mr Kulwakurti Anjaneyulu, Mr Lingaswamy, Mr Ranganath Goud, Mr Reddy Srinu, Mr Bobbili Yugandhar and Mr Legala Srinivas Mudiraj were present at the event.
