Minister says Musi modernisation is on track

Telangana Minister for Power and SC Development G Jagadish Reddy on Wednesday urged all sections of people to take part in the State government’s efforts to achieve Bangaru Telangana, the dream of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.Unfurling the national flag at Police Parade Ground in Suryapet, Jagadish said Suryapet district had achieved a significant development in the last four years, which also reflected in the lives of the people in rural areas. 

Stating that the government was giving a top priority to agriculture, he reminded that the modernisation of gates, shutters and distributaries of Musi project with Rs 65.56 crore was under progress. In addition to this, 19 check dams would be set up across the river with an estimated cost of Rs 129 crore.

After 10 years, irrigation was provided to the second crop to Musi ayacut by replacing regulatory and crush gates, spending Rs 16.29 crore. By arresting water leakage, some 14,770 acres of ayacut under the right canal and 15,230 acres of ayacut under the left canal was stabilised, he maintained.

Stating that safe drinking water was being supplied to 534 hamlets in the district through Mission Bhagiratha, Jagadish said the project was taken up in the district at an estimated cost of Rs 822 crore. Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of 95 million litres at Imampet in the district was ready for inauguration. Under the project, over 1,400 km of pipelines lines were already laid, he maintained.

Reminding that health services were also improved in State-run hospitals, the Minister pointed out that the State government had sanctioned a medical college to Suryapet with Rs 495 crore, besides giving a nod for 952 posts, including teaching and non-teaching for the college, he added. In all, some 1,019 patients of renal diseases were availing dialysis facility at the centre set up in Suryapet Area Hospital, the Minister added.

He said Rs 81 crore was sanctioned by the State for setting up sewerage water treatment plant in Suryapet. Under Amruth scheme, works worth Rs 30.13 crore were taken up to improve drinking water supply in the colonies of the town.
