Heavy rain fall hits Adilabad district

Adilabad district continued to register heavy rainfall on Friday, affecting normal life and wreaking havoc on farmers. Low-lying areas in Adilabad town, Indervelli and many other parts were inundated, forcing people to vacate their residences. Standing cotton and paddy crops were damaged and road connectivity of several habitations was hit.


Adilabad, which was affected by Thursday’s heavy rains, registered an average of 127 mm rainfall on the second day as well. Echoda mandal recorded the highest of 234 mm rainfall, while Bazarhathnoor mandal saw 190 mm rainfall. Boath, Bheempur, Bhela, Gadiguda, Gudihathnoor, Adilabad (Rural), Adilabad (Urban), Tamsi, Talamadugu, Neradigonda and Sirikonda recorded somewhere between 100 mm and 163 mm.


Consequently, scores of habitations belonging to these mandals were flooded, forcing dwellers to evacuate to safer places. In particular, certain houses in Indervelli mandal centre were submerged, causing hardships to the residents. Similarly, paddy and cotton crops were submerged, resulting in losses to farmers.


Collector D Divya and RDO Jagadishwar Reddy toured rain-affected villages in Indervelli mandal and Sirikonda and spoke to victims. She inspected houses demolished due to the downpour. She also visited Chikman project in Sirikonda mandal. Joint Collector G Sandhya Rani visited a camp in Echoda mandal centre and interacted with 650 girl students of tribal welfare school who were moved to a youth training centre. They instructed officials to ensure food and accommodation for the pupils.


Meanwhile, several localities in Adilabad town were also hit by the floods. They included Mahalaxmiwada, Khanapur, Jaijavan Nagar, Ramnagar GS Nagar, and Dasnapur. Forest and Environment Minister Jogu Ramanna and Municipal Chairperson R Maneesha toured these areas and promised to extend all support to the rain-hit families.


Adilabad MP G Nagesh toured Echoda mandal and assured the farmers whose crops were damaged compensation. Boath MLA R Bapu Rao and his colleague A Rekha Naik of Khanapur toured their Assembly constituencies. They both interacted with farmers and people affected by the heavy rains and promised help from the government.
