GHMC sets deadline for fire safety at pubs and hotels

GHMC has set August 30 as deadline for hotels, pubs and restaurants for obtaining fire safety certificates, failing which the premises will be seized without any prior notice. To this effect, the municipal corporation conducted a special meeting with associations and owners of hotels, pubs and restaurants here on Monday.The objective was to make management of commercial establishments understand procedures needed to be adopted for obtaining fire safety certificate in the interest of their customers’ safety. Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy and other senior officials participated in the meet. 


In the meeting, Reddy said that to set up fire-fighting equipment for 1,000 metres area, it costs about Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000. He instructed that every owner should apply for fire safety certificate before August 30. “Establishments which fail to apply for fire safety certificate will be seized without any further notice,” he said.


Mayor Bonthu Rammohan appealed to all the owners of the bars, pubs and restaurants to strictly follow the prescribed rules for obtaining Fire Safety rules. He wanted them to download the application form from the GHMC website i.e., www.ghmc.gov.in on or before 30th August 2018.


After verification of the applications, the Disaster Management wing of the municipal corporation will conduct field inspections. They will explain about the precautionary measures to be taken for fire safety measures in their respective business establishments, he added.


The owners after filling of the application must submit the same at the Head Office but not on online to have a clear verification of the applications. All the hotels, pubs and bars with a seating capacity of more than 50 persons will have to obtain the fire safety certificate, said Viswajeeth Kampati, Director, Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management.
