Srisailam gates opened after heavy inflows

The Srisailam Dam is constructed across the Krishna River in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh near Srisailam temple town and is the 2nd largest capacity working hydroelectric station in the country.


Kurnool: With the Srisailam reservoir receiving heavy inflows, eight spillway gates were lifted on Thursday and released  2,18,360 cusecs of water to the Nagarjunasagar.

Presently 3,19,948  cusecs of water are being drawn from the reservoir, including 72,825 cusecs for power generation purposes.

The officials of the reservoir lifted eight gates up to 10 ft after getting permission from the government. However, the inflow is continuing with 2,56,993 cusecs from both Krishna and Tungabadhra rivers. At present, the floodwater has arrived 883.30 ft of the dam as against the FRL 885 ft.

Presently, all 13 generators of both power stations were continuing power production. As per the officials, seven units of Andhra Pradesh powerhouse were producing 747 megawatts of power by utilizing 30,447 cusecs of water from the Srisailam reservoir. And six units of Telangana powerhouse were producing 910 megawatts of power by utilizing 42,378 cusecs of water from the same dam.
