Police arrested Varavara Rao from his residence

Pune Police conducted raids in different parts of Hyderabad and arrested revolutionary writer Varavara Rao from his Gandhi Nagar residence,yesterday, The veteran writer was arrested for allegedly conspiring and attempting to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi.In the past, a case was filed by the Pune Police against Varavara Rao for allegedly plotting to assassinate Modi. Cops raided the residences of Varavara Rao, journalists KV Kurmanath and T Kranthi, EFLU professor Satyanarayana and others. Many alleged that the arrests were in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon arrests that took place across the country yesterday.


Earlier this year, the police had arrested a person and reportedly recovered a letter in which Varavara allegedly complimented him on the success of the Gadchiroli attacks launched by the Naxals. However, Varavara Rao termed the letter as fake in a press meet at that time. He also alleged that false cases are being booked on him and others.


On the other hand, apart from Varavara Rao, the Maharashtra Police also arrested trade union activist Sudha Bhardwaj in Faridabad, activists Vernon Gonzalves and Arun Farreira in Mumbai and civil liberties activist Gautam Navalakha in New Delhi under IPC Section 153 (A).
