Political heat is set to hit a new high in the State today. CM K Chandrashekhar Rao will address the largest gathering of more than 25 lakh people as part of Pragathi Nivedana Sabha public meeting at Kongara Kalan near Outer Ring Road (ORR) on the Hyderabad outskirts and present the progress report of his government in the past 51 weeks after the State formation.

Besides making some major announcements for people of the State, the Chief Minister is also expected to advise the party cadre on consolidating the party’s position among mass voters who have largely benefited from the government schemes and also set the tone for the next elections.

In the meeting which is likely to last for more than two hours, he will elaborate on the progress of the State in terms of development and welfare as well as the party’s contribution to the State during the agitation for separate Telangana State and also as the ruling party after the State formation.

“The Chief Minister will be the main speaker apart from a couple of party leaders at the public meeting which will also discuss the current political scenario in the State and also the country. We are expecting other announcements from him explaining future action plan of the party,” a senior Minister.

All roads leading to Kongara Kalan including Hyderabad city outskirts along the Outer Ring Road (ORR) were painted in pink since Saturday morning. With the ruling TRS hosting the largest political gathering, the party cadre decorated the State capital with festoons and large hoardings, boasting about the government welfare schemes. All traffic islands and road junctions, as well as either side of ORR, have turned pink resembling the ruling party flag’s colour.

People including farmers started pouring into Hyderabad since Saturday morning. Thousands of tractors and four-wheelers, as well as buses, started off on Friday itself from the border areas of the State and at least two lakh people have reached the venue by Saturday night. They danced in gay abandon amid the beating of drums and sprinkled pink colour on each other.

IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao personally drove a four-wheeler to visit all parking lots spread over 1,500 acres. He inspected food, toilets and other arrangements made for the people coming from faraway places. He urged people who are not attending the public meeting to remain indoors and avoid travelling on Sunday in the wake of the massive mobilisation of people.

The police in association with TRS party cadre made fool-proof arrangements to ensure safe arrival and departure of public attending the meeting. Around 20-25 connecting roads had been developed to reach the venue beside expansion of Kongara Kalan road from two-lane to four-lane where people were advised to follow the police instructions to reach the venue safely. To enable the entire audience to witness the speech of the TRS president, giant LED screens have been erected across the venue.
