Over 300 PhD holders ready to write VRO exam

Indicating that government jobs were still among the most preferred vocations, as many as 372 PhD and 539 MPhil degree holders are in a race to get selected to 700 vacancies of Village Revenue Officers (VRO) in the Telangana State Revenue Department. The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) had recently notified to fill 700 VRO posts, for which the basic qualification was an intermediate pass, either from the State Board of Intermediate Education or its equivalent qualification, with the PSC likely to conduct an objective type optical mark recognition based examination on September 16. The Commission will host hall tickets soon on its website for download.


It has not been just PhD and MPhil degree holders that are in the race. A total of 10,58,868 candidates from across the State and even from other States too have registered for the VRO post. This is for the first time that such a whopping number of applicants have registered for a recruitment examination. Of the total applications, 6,06,717 are men and 4,52,151 are women. Earlier, 7,89,437 candidates had registered for the recruitment examination to 1,032 vacancies of Group-II Services in various departments of which 5.17 lakh had appeared in the test held in November 2016. 


The PSC has received a maximum of 4,49,439 applications from graduates. while 4,17,870 aspirants with intermediate education too have registered. Similarly, 1,51,735 postgraduates too have applied for the post while 36,463 candidates with Diploma, 1,995 with SSC and 455 with other qualifications have also registered. Among the erstwhile 10 districts, with 1,56,856 applicants Karimnagar topped in the registrations for the VRO post followed by Mahabubnagar with 1,56,096 applicants and Nalgonda with 1,50,206 applications. The least number of applicants were from Hyderabad with 47,059. This apart, 14,042 aspirants from other States too registered.


Among the reserved categories, 2,44,746 applications from were from SCs followed by 2,41,058 BC-B and 2,27,075 from BC-D applicants. “This is for the first time that PSC has received a whopping 10.5 lakh applications for a recruitment examination. Arrangements will be made for all the candidates who have registered,” a senior PSC official of PSC told .
