Govt to extend Mid-day meals to govt colleges also

Telangana government is putting in all efforts to roll out the mid-day meal scheme for students of government colleges from this month, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari said on Wednesday said, the Education Department received several representations from students who sought inclusion of the scheme in government colleges. The representations received from students were also forwarded to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, who immediately directed officials to extend the scheme to government colleges, Srihari said. 


The scheme will be extended to five lakh students of government junior, degree, polytechnic, BEd and DEd colleges across the State. The mid-day meal scheme is already being implemented in all government schools in Telangana with a menu ranging from vegetable biryani, steamed rice, dal, vegetable curry and egg, among other food items.Recently, Chief Minister gave in-principle approval to implement the scheme and directed the Cabinet Sub-Committee, headed by Srihari for recommendations on modalities, to implement it in State-run colleges. The Cabinet Sub-committee discussed the issue with Akshaya Patra Foundation, which serves mid-day meals to schoolchildren in the city and outskirts.
