In yet another case, a 14-month-old girl accidentally fell in an open borewell which is about 40-60 feet deep at Ekka Reddy guda in Chevella of Vikarabad district on Thursday night and the incident created shock waves across the state. Massive rescue operations were taken up by Cyberabad police along with district authorities to rescue the child and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were also contacted for help. Chevella is about 70 kilometers from Hyderabad.

The girl who is yet to be christened by her parents, accidentally fell while she was playing in the field at around 7.15 pm. The girl was at the Malla Reddy Poly House, along with her father Yadagiri and elder sister Arshita. Yadagiri works as a labourer at his land owner. The victim was playing near by the open borewell along with her sister Arshita and suddenly the baby fell into the deep narrow open borewell.

Deputy Commissioner of police (Shamshabad) PV Padmaja told  that police came to know about the incident after the locals gave a call to dial-100 informing about the girl getting trapped in the hole. "Police reached the spot in about 15 minutes. We pressed in JCBs and a parallel hole is made along side the well, where the baby was trapped. Oxygen is being supplied to the baby through pipes and rescue operations are being done to save the girl," DCP said. 108 Ambulances are also kept ready. Since there was no lighting in the area, arrangements were made for lighting the location.

Locals said that they could hear screams of the girl Chinnari (an informal name given to the baby by her parents), which confirmed that the baby is still alive. Immediately after the information spread about baby falling in the borewell, Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy, who hails from this district, rushed to the location and supervised the operations. "We have already contacted NDRF to help us in the rescue operation and they will be joining the operation to save the girl," a senior officer of the district said when the last reports reached.

Infact, the owner of land kept the motor ready to be fixed at the open borewell but since he reportedly did not find water at the location he left it open. "Yadagiri is a native of Gorepally village in Yaalal mandal but it was a year ago, he moved to Ekka Reddyguda for livelihood," Chevella Inspector G Guravaiah said.

The family members of the trapped girl said that they came to know about the incident when they enquired with Arshita about her younger sister, since she was supposed to be given food at the time. It was then she told that the Chinnari fell into the well. On knowing about it, mother Renuka and others rushed to the well and got shocked and alerted the village elders
