HYDERABAD Feb 15 : The state government placed a guiding document before the visiting AK Bajaj, an expert committee constituted by the Central government, for the release of water from Srisailam.
The irrigation department, according to sources, suggested the water release protocol was prepared considering 36 years of data on net monthly inflow at Srisailam. According to sources, the protocol is primarily divided into three segments depending on the flow condition and manner of use of water.The TS urged the Bajaj Committee to consider the release of water on a regular basis from Srisailam considering flows from June to August, flows from September to December and inflows at Srisailam from January to the remaining period to Telangana State.
The suggestion was made by TS as AP was insisting maintaining of minimum level at Srisailam and releasing water to Rayalaseema through Pothireddypadu. The TS wanted that if the protocol suggested by it was followed, then the TS farmers will not be rendered injustice in release of timely waters.According to the TS suggestion, the average inflows in June every year at Srisailam will be 2 to 47 tmc. The minimum release of 6 tmc to Nagarjuna Sagar project in June will ensure firm power at Srisailam. In case the inflows at Srisailam is more than 9 tmc, then the entire quantity should be released to NSP.
The inflows in July will be around 20 tmc to 200 tmc. In case, the inflows are less than 250 tmc, then 50 per cent of inflows should be released to NSP and out the remaining 50 per cent of flows, half of the flows should be retained at Srisailam. The remaining half of the inflows should be shared between AP and TS.In case, the inflows are more than 250 tmc, 40 per cent of the inflows should be released to NSP. The remaining 60 per cent flows, half of the flows should be retained at Srisailam and remaining half will be shared equally between AP and TS.
