Hyderabad: The State government has completed a marathon exercise of transferring 38 IPS officers on Sunday with the aim of ensuring a ‘Safe Telangana’. According to senior officials, priority was given to efficiency, transparency, honesty and administrative skills while taking up the mammoth reshuffle. However, the officers, in their new posts, now have major challenges waiting for them.Apart from dealing with criminals with an iron hand, cases relating to land grabbling, crime against women and cybercrimes will keep them on their toes. As only one year is left for the general elections, the police has to not only gear up for regular bandobust duties during festivals like Sri Ramanavami, Sri Hanuman Jayathi, Ramzan, Bonalu and Sri Vinaya Chathurthi, but also for the poll duties. In addition, security of VIPs and foreign dignitaries during their visits to the city is of paramount importance. In Hyderabad, the core area that would always be a challenge for police is law and order in the Old City falling under South Zone. Be it festivals or elections, the Old City continues to remain a vital area for police in deploying additional forces to prevent untoward incidents. As City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, who assumed office on Monday, has worked as Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) earlier in Hyderabad, it would not be a tough task for him to deal with the situation. As Additional Commissioner of Police, he used to visit the Old City every Friday to supervise security arrangements for prayers at Mecca Masjid.“With his previous experience, he can handle the situation effectively,” a senior official said, adding that not a single stone pelting incident was reported from the Old City in the last three years, with the credit going to the each and every official working in the Old City.In Cyberabad, a hub of IT and ITeS sectors, the task for new Commissioner VC Sajjanar, who was IG Special Intelligence Branch (SIB), is to tackle the situation in remote areas like Moinabad, Kondurg, Kothur and Kadthal. This apart, security for major events, with foreign dignitaries too, at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre is a challenge. As there are 700 IT companies and 6,500 major and minor industries along with 10 convention centres and 15 hotels of repute in Madhapur and surroundings, priority will be for security. The Cyberabad police have managed to conduct smoothly major events like the Global Entrepreneurship Summit, World IT Congress and BioAsia by adopting perfect planning and a coordinated approach. Continuance of the same tempo was crucial, another official said.Though it will be new terrain for D Joel Davis and V Ravinder as the Commissioners of Siddipet and Warangal City, the experience of handling pressure situations while working in the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate is expected to help them in a big way.
