In a record of sorts, 10,58,387 candidates have applied for the Village Revenue Officer (VRO) recruitment examination. This is for the first time that the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) has received such a huge number of applications. The largest number of applications prior to this was when 7,89,437 candidates registered for the recruitment examination to 1,032 vacancies of Group-II Services in various departments. Of these, 5.17 lakh had appeared in the test held in November 2016.

The highest number of applications received by the PSC before bifurcation was seven lakh. Addressing a press conference at the TSPSC office here on Wednesday, TSPSC secretary A Vani Prasad said the Commission had conducted several recruitment examinations so far, but 10,58,387 registrations, that too for the VRO post, were the highest so far.

The Commission had notified 700 VRO posts, for which intermediate education was the eligibility criteria. The maximum number of applications, 4,49,439 applications, were from graduates, while 4,17,870 aspirants with intermediate qualification also applied for the post. Vani Prasad said elaborate arrangements were being made for the smooth conduct of the test scheduled on September 16 and accordingly, necessary instructions have been issued to all district Collectors by the State government.

There will be 2,945 test centres and all the registered candidates have been allotted a test venue. In Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority limits, about three lakh candidates will take the test in 627 test centres. The test will be conducted from 11 am to 1.30 pm and candidates will not be allowed inside the exam venue after 10.45 am.

The candidates have been instructed not to wear shoes, jewellery, chains, studs and wristwatches to the centres. They have also been asked to carry a valid photo identity card along with the hall ticket. “Candidates with no or clear photograph and no name on the hall ticket will have to carry two passport size photographs to the examination venue for appearing for the test with an undertaking,” she said, adding that biometric details would not be captured for the attendance.

She said that carbonless copy of the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) would not be given to the candidates after completion of the examination. Instead, the Commission would upload a digital copy of the OMR on its website www.tspsc.gov.in.
