Hyderabad: Out of the 40 electric buses only 5 Electric busses are taken on hire which was flagged off a month ago but is not on the roads as there are no power stations to recharge their batteries. These five buses meant for the Miyapur depot but lie unused at the Bus Bhavan.

Miyapur has to get a total of 20 buses, and the other 20 are headed for the Cantonment depot. Another 60 buses are said to be on order.

Though there are power supply units which were set up under the national electric vehicles scheme by the Centre, the RTC needs to have its own infrastructure. Even for conventional buses, every depot has its own fuel bunk.

A Road Transport Corporation official on condition of anonymity said “Though the buses are ready, we need to have 1,000 kv transformers set up in the depots. The power supply is being provided by Transco, and we are expecting to launch these vehicles within 10 days from now.  All the arrangements are being done.”

According to officials, arrangements are being made for the power supply which would be finished by the end of this month.
