It seems Bharatiya Janatha Party is indeed taking Telangana Assembly elections seriously. The party’s leadership on Wednesday announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be touring the State in November. This is a significant development for the Telangana wing of BJP since the party high command is sending Modi to Telangana while it is election season in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh as well, where the party has a significant presence. The PM is set to tour in three districts as part of his first leg of campaigning.

Announcing the development, BJP State president K Laxman said, “PM Narendra Modi has expressed his desire to tour in Telangana. He will address three public meetings in three districts — Hyderabad, Nizamabad and Suryapet — during the first phase.”

The groundwork for Modi’s visit began with BJP national president Amit Shah who has already visited the State twice and is set to do it again on October 28. According to party insiders, Modi will be touring in more than ten districts over the coming weeks.

Commenting on the grand alliance of Congress, TDP, CPI and TJS, Laxman predicted, “TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy will have to go to the Himalayas with a longer beard than he has now since Congress has no chances of winning.”

Meanwhile, controversial seer Paripoornanada, who recently joined the party reiterated his earlier statements that he wished to act as a party worker and had no ulterior motives. “There is a ‘Laxman rekha’ (metaphorical line not be crossed) I will never cross. If president Laxman asks me to do something, I will do it. And if he asks he to not do something, I won’t. I want to be among equals in the party,” he said signifying that Laxman would continue to call some of the shots.

Commenting on the upcoming elections, he said, “In TRS, KCR’s two children manage all the key affairs, and other relatives manage the rest. But this won’t work anymore. The new government will be a ‘janata sarkar’ (government of the people).”
