The accused in the honour killing of Perumalla Pranay were denied bail by the Nalgonda SC/ST special court on Friday.During the hearing, Pranay’s wife Amrutha Varshini pleaded with Justice Hussaib Hymed not to grant bail to the accused which included her father Thirunagaru Maruthi Rao. If they were granted bail, there was a danger that they would tamper with evidence. “It will pose a threat to my life,” she said.

Amrutha appeared at the court along with Pranay’s father Bala Swamy.Maruthi Rao, Asgar Ali, Abdul Bari, Karim, Thirunagaru Shravan and Shiva had filed petitions for bail. Public prosecutor Mokini Satyanarayana Goud opposed the petitions.

On September 14, some persons hacked Pranay to death in front of a hospital in Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district, where he had gone with his five-month pregnant wife Amrutha. The killer had been hired by Maruthi Rao through a terror suspect Mohammed Abdul Bari. Maruthi Rao was angered that his daughter had married a Dalit youth, he told the police. His honour was more important than his daughter, he had said.
