Former minister and Congress leader Jalagam Prasada Rao is all set to join Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in a couple of days. Prasada Rao called on IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao in Hyderabad on Thursday and expressed his willingness to join TRS after consulting his followers. This will help the ruling TRS in Khammam and Bhadradri Kothagudem district, as Prasada Rao has a large number of followers.
Jalagam was suspended from Congress for six year term. Hence, stayed away from active politics for a very long time. Recently, the Congress high command offered him Paleru ticket. But, the local Congress leaders like Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Renuka Chowdary, Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy and Sabhani Chandrasekhar objected the same. In the backdrop, Roads and Buildings Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao moved pawns and arranged a meeting between KTR and Jalagam.
“I will speak to my followers and other leaders in Khammam. Later, I will take a decision,” Jalagam told Express. He lamented that the Congress workers in the erstwhile Khammam district had no protect and are not bothered about senior leaders.
Jalagam claimed that the TRS leadership assured to protect the interests of Girijans in the district. Thummala and Jalagam were in different parties and rivals in the past. However, Thummala’s initiative to befriend Jalagam would help TRS to increase its voting share, sources said.
