Police busted cricket betting racket in Hyderabad

One more online betting racket was busted by the Hyderabad Police following the arrest of three persons from the city. The police seized Rs 41.20 lakh cash, six mobile phones and one Samsung LED from them. Acting on a tip off, the Commissioner’s Task Force (North) team caught Alok Jain (36), a resident of Himayathnagar and native of Madhya Pradesh, Abhishek Jain (32) of Ramkote also a native of Madhya Pradesh and Mehul K Morjaria (35) of Gujarat.


“Alok is the prime accused and main organiser of the betting racket operated online through “www.msa.abexch.com” and accepting betting amounts directly and indirectly over mobile phones. The gang was organising betting on T20 matches being played between India and Australia,” said Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar.


The organisers passed on login IDs and passwords to sub-bookies who logged into the account and placed bets. A few punters were also provided IDs to place their bets directly and pay a commission on the winning or losing stakes. In T20 cricket matches, the bookies divided the 20 overs into four sessions and bookies accepted bets. “During the T20 Big Bash League, the bookies were accepting huge betting amounts from punters when on a tip off they were caught at Chikkadpally,” said the Commissioner. The accused along with the property were handed over to the Chikkadpally police station limits for further action.
