Chevella: A man, who caught his wife in a compromising position with her lover, set both afire at Chevella on the city outskirts on Sunday morning. While the woman was charred to death, her lover was hospitalised with burns. The incident took place in Ambedkarnagar Colony in Chevella village of Ranga Reddy district.

According to the police, the woman, Damarragidda Bhagya (25), was married to D Ravi (28) over a decade ago and had two sons. For the last few months, Bhagya was reportedly in a relationship with Omer, a resident of Himayatsagar, who started frequenting Bhagya’s home to meet her. On learning about their affair, Ravi and the families of both sides counselled Bhagya to stop her relationship with Omer.

On Saturday night, Omer came to Ravi’s place and both consumed liquor after dinner. A while later, Ravi left on some work and Omer too went away. But, Ravi returned home on Sunday morning to find Bhagya and Omer in the bedroom. “He poured some petrol from Omer’s bike into a mug and splashed it on the two. Before they could react, he set them on fire and locked the door,” Chevella Sub Inspector M Renuka said.

Locals who noticed the smoke broke open the door and informed the police. They brought Omer out of the house while Bhagya was found charred. The children were sitting outside the house when the incident took place.

The Chevella police rushed to the spot and registered a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to commit murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
