Sarpanch post auctioned for Rs 63 lakh

Nalgonda: The warning issued by the election commission of imposing one-year jail term for the people participating in panchayat post auction fell on deaf years. The panchayat post which has to be won by the elections is being sold for whooping prices in the state. 


The sarpanch post of Gurrampode village in Nalgonda district was sold for Rs 63.03 village while it has been sold for Rs 16.50 lakh in Chamaledu and Rs 16.50 lakh in Mailavaram, it is learned. The nomination process for the Gram Panchayat elections has ended on Wednesday and the first phase of the elections for 4,480 panchayats and 39, 832 wards are scheduled to be held on January 21.
