TRS won 60% of seats in the panchayat elections

Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi party once again emerged as a favourite in the third and final phase of the panchayat polls in Telangana. TRS won around 60% of the seats in the panchayat elections which were held on a non-party basis. On Wednesday, TRS-backed candidates won 7,731 sarpanch seats out of the 12,732 panchayat seats while Congress-backed candidates won 2,698 seats, as per last evening’s figures.
Meanwhile, BJP-backed candidates won 163, Telugu Desam 82, CPI 50 and CPM had 77 panchayats. Other parties won 1,825 seats in all three phases.In the third phase of panchayat polls, 573 panchayats unanimously elected their sarpanch our of the 4,102 gram panchayats.
