Telangana Transport Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy said on Tuesday that electric buses will be introduced in the State in two to three days. He had a review on the RTC operations and functioning of the Transport Department at the Assembly Committee Hall with the officials concerned.

Calling for efforts to reach the commuters with improvised services by the Road Transport Corporation, he asked that due attention be paid on the revenue growth as well. He said over 30 lakh kilometre were being covered by the RTC services daily while over 90 lakh people were availing its services.

The corporation, which employees 59,000 personnel, has been operating over 10,000 buses in the State. Still it has been incurring losses. The losses could be cut down by 5% this year and the corporation has been planning to bring it down to 10%.

The Corporation should focus on revenue growth by exploring the potential of cargo transportation and advertisements. Its services rake in Rs 2900 crore on passenger transport services as against a target of Rs 3900 crore.

The TSRTC has been adding to its revenue by about Rs 500 crore every year and it needs to be enhanced further, he stressed.
