Nizamabad: Minister for R&B, Transport and Legislative Affairs, V. Prashanth Reddy said that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao would take a decision in favour of the agitating red jowar and turmeric farmers soon. There was no need to worry over support price for the produce, he assured. “TRS government will take a decision to avert the losses to the farmers”, he said. Mr Prashanth Reddy made his maiden visit to native Nizamabad district on Wednesday. On the occasion, a felicitation programme was held in his honour.

TRS activists and the Telangana Jagruthi volunteers took out a motorbike rally in the town. Speaking at the meeting, Mr Prashanth recalled his father, the late TRS state leader Vemula Surender Reddy’s words about his political career. “I am loyal to the CM KCR and his family members till my last breath”, the minister said. Mr Prashanth Reddy said that he would work under the guidance of Mr Chandrasekhar Rao and MP K. Kavitha.

“With the coordination of party MLAs, we will work for the integrated development of Nizamabad district”, he said. “KCR has placed a huge responsibility on me by allocating key portfolios and I will do the work with utmost sincerity”, said Mr Reddy.

Without naming the Congress, MP Kavitha criticised political forces and said they were provoking the farmers over supportive price for turmeric and red jowar. To rescue the farmers, the state government had spent `150 crore to purchase red jowar last year, she said. The TRS government had paid red jowar arrears from 2008, she said. TRS was concerned about the farmers’ welfare and had therefore introduced Rythu Bandhu scheme, she added.

The MP said that welfare measures of farmers in Telangana state had become an inspiration for the entire country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too had initiated a Rythu Bandhu like scheme, she added.

“The Chief Minister knows the plight of farmers and he will take positive decision at the appropriate time”, said Ms Kavitha. Nizamabad Urban MLA Mr Bigala Ganesh Gupta presided over the meeting.

MP B. B. Patil, MLAs- Mr Bajireddy Govardhan, Mr Hanmanth Shinde, Mr A. Jeevan Reddy, MLCs- Mr V. G. Goud, Mr D. Rajeshwar, Ms Akula Lalitha, former Speaker Mr K. R.Suresh Reddy, former MLA E. Ravinder Reddy and mayor Akula Sujatha spoke on the occasion. TSREDCO chairman S. A. Aleem, NUDA chairman C. Prabhakar Reddy, TRS senior leaders A. S. Poshetty, Mr Ramkishan Rao, Mr Eega Ganga Reddy and others were present.
