Hyderabad: A rabid dog attacked several people at Malkajgiri on Tuesday night. The dog attacked 17 people, including persons taking electrical meter readings and even puppies on the main road of Brahmarambika Nagar. Locals shifted the injured to the hospital and are undergoing treatment. Later, a GHMC dog squad caught the dog after receiving complaints from the locals.

Expressing his anguish over the incident, president of Brahmarambika Colony Niranjan said that there were about 300 stray dogs in the neighbourbing colonies Vishnupuri Colony, Shivpuri colony, Gautham School, Bajrang colony and Brahmarambika colony and several persons, including small children, were frequently bitten by dogs. People were afraid to walk on roads during evening hours, he lamented.

Despite several complaints to GHMC officials, no measures were taken to contain the dog menace, locals said. Locals appealed to the authorities concerned to provide protection from stray dogs and ensure that such incidents do not happen in future again.
