Hyderabad: Flying squads and static surveillance teams have been formed to monitor violations of the model code of conduct within Hyderabad city, which houses three Lok Sabha constituencies — Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Malkajgiri — said police commissioner Anjani Kumar.

Each Lok Sabha constituency has 15 flying squads and 15 static surveillance teams, making a total of 90 teams exclusively to monitor the violations of the code of conduct by political parties, their candidates and supporters.

The police commissioner on Tuesday said that the flying squads and static surveillance teams were already on the job of monitoring violations of the election code.

Political parties need to take permission to organize public meetings and rallies from the Returning Officer concerned as well as the police department.

“Possession of cash above Rs 50,000 without any valid document to prove its source is considered to be a violation and the Election Commission of India’s priority is to control the illegal flow of cash during the elections. A close watch is being kept on the transportation of money between cities and states. The public has been told to carry receipts and documents related to the cash they are carrying and produce them during the checks by the flying squads,” Mr. Anjani Kumar said.

The commissioner said that about 182 cases were registered for violation of model code of conduct during Assembly elections in the state in 2018. Among them, 17 cases had already ended in conviction, while 120 cases were charge-sheeted and were pending trial. The cash seized was about Rs 29 crore while gold and silver worth Rs 3 crore were also seized. All these were handed over to the I-T department.
