The time has come for the people of Telangana to decide between a ‘chowkidar’ working for people with sincerity and a family-led government mired in corruption, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.

Addressing a public meeting at Bhootpur in Mahabubnagar in sweltering heat, his first in Telangana this season, Mr. Modi said although people of Mahabubnagar have supported KCR wholeheartedly he has done little for this area except to help his own family members like his son, nephew and others.

Claiming that KCR had advanced Assembly polls on the advice of an astrologer, Mr. Modi said that Telangana people should decide if they want their future to be decided by an astrologer.

The PM’s 45-minute speech was full of barbs directed at TRS and KCR whom he accused of advancing polls and putting a financial burden on people. KCR was forced to advance the poll because he was told Modi’s star was on the ascendence in April/May, he said.

Pointing out that TRS and Congress were alike in promoting dynasty politics, Mr. Modi said irrespective of Assembly results the Centre hads been liberal in giving Telangana an All India Institute of Medical Sciences, a Tribal University and National Highways, while a railway link to Mahabunagar is underway.

Mr. Modi also accused TRS Govt of making use of Centres schemes as its own. Appealing for a vote, he asserted his government provided a template for a new India — confident, secure and on a development path.

His government has put an end to bomb blasts and boxed terror to the Kashmir corner, he said. It did not hesitate to cross borders to destroy terror havens besides not balking at taking decisive steps as in showcasing space weapons, he added.

But it was unfortunate the Opposition was questioning armed forces, said the Prime Minister. It was also abusing him, but because of people’s blessings he was steadfast in his approach towards taking the country in development path, Mr. Modi said.

Telangana BJP chief K. Laxman translated the Prime Minister’s speech after initially stating his Hindi can be understood. Party candidates D.K. Aruna for Mahabubnagar and Bangaru Shruthi for Nagarkurnool constituencies were introduced at the meeting.
