Nine workers died in NREGS works

Narayanapet: At least nine workers were buried alive when a mound of earth collapsed on them at Edmartippa hillock on the outskirts of Tileru village of Narayanpet district, about 150 kilometers from here on Wednesday morning. According to reports reaching here, the workers were engaged in NREGS works and were digging earth when the mound collapsed on them. There were at least 15 people working at the time of accident. Authorities and local people who rushed there extricated nine bodies so far. Most of them were women.


Chiefs Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has expressed his deep shock over the incident and has ordered the district administration to take up measures to help the families of the victims immediately. He said the victims were all from poor families and described the incident as the most unfortunate one. Minister V Srinivas Goud and Mahabubnagar Parliamentery constituency candidate from TRS M Srinivas Reddy have rushed to the incident site to monitor the operations.
