A 31-year-old man who complained of severe chest pain after returning from a gym and took a painkiller died here on Monday. The deceased has been identified as  Aditya Singh, 31, a private company employee hailing from Punjab. He had come to the city nine months ago. SR Nagar inspector S. Murali Krishna said that on Monday at about 10.30 am, Aditya went to Golden Gym at SR Nagar. Later, he went to his house and complained of chest pain. Aditya was rushed to a hospital where doctors decla-red him brought dead.”

Aditya’s friend Hussain said, “As usual, I went to the gym to pick up Aditya. He complained that he was experiencing severe pain in the stomach and chest. We returned to our room, where he told me he took a painkiller while he was waiting for me.”

He said he called the gym trainer Anil. “We rushed him to a hospital where he was declared brought dead,” Mr Hussain said. He said Aditya had not complaint of any health problems earlier.

Asked about the case, Dr Sai Ravi Shankar A., senior consultant cardiologist, said, “No one should not take a painkiller for chest pain, especially after a work-out. The painkiller will aggravate the problem. Those who want to go the gym should undergo a medical check-up with  ECG, 2D Echo and treadmill test.”

He said it was possible that Aditya had suffered hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or arrhythmia which is a genetic disorder due to which he might have suffered sudden cardiac arrest. He might be suffering from underlying heart diseases and severe exercise might have lead to a massive heart attack. “Before going to the gym, people must not smoke or take coffee. Those performing exercise should monitor the heart rate.” The SR Nagar police has registered the case under Section 174 CrPC (suspicious death) and further investigation is underway.
