Hyderabad: The Secunderabad  Cantonment Board (SCB) is trying every trick in the book to collect tax owed by the Begumpet airport. All these years the SCB had been sending notices to the Airport Authority of India (AAI), seeking payment of taxes owed by the Begumpet airport, but in vain. The tax dues now stand at Rs 16.36 crore.

In a fresh attempt, the two parties held discussions on the subject. The SCB gave two options to the AAI- either pay the annual property tax or service charges yearly. If the AAI chooses to pay service charges, it has to shell out Rs 7.8 crore a year. In case of property tax, it comes to Rs 2.78 crore.

In the past the Begumpet airport authorities complained of higher tax of being imposed on it. The SCB authorities carried out reassessment. The total area under the SCB jurisdiction is 16,23,803 square feet. According to sources, the Begumpet airport authorities had written to the Ministry of Civil Aviation regarding the SCB’s proposal.

It may be noted that SCB slapped a red notice on the Begumpet airport last month for the first time, threatening attachment of the property. In fact, the SCB is now mulling seizing the property if the airport authorities fail to pay up this time, according to a senior official.
