Commissioner of Police V.B. Kamalasan Reddy has warned the land owners of registering criminal cases if they encourage illegal sand storage in the district.The police, who have launched a drive against the illegal sand storing and transportation, had conducted drone camera patrolling and found illegal sand dumps in Elgandal village outskirts of Kothapalli on Friday. The police found 50 lorry loads of sand stored illegally in the dump and covered with red sand. On the earlier raids, the police found sand dumps covered with hay stacks.
The Commissioner of Police, who inspected the sand dumps, told the newsmen that they had credible information about illegal sand transportation from the river Manair from the adjoining villages of Elgandal, Khazipur and Ilavonipalli and cracked the whip and seized 500 lorry loads of sand and shifted to the Kaleshwaram project and double bedroom housing scheme.
Stating that they had constituted special teams with Special Branch, Task Force and Quick Reaction Teams to check illegal sand transportation and storage, he warned the registration of criminal cases under IPC 379 and Mines and Minerals Act against the persons involved in the illegal sand transportation and storage.
He also warned the land owners, who were letting out their premises for the storage of sand in dumps, of criminal cases. He also informed the elected representatives to launch a campaign against the illegal sand quarry operations to check depletion of groundwater table.
