After waaiting for long duration Osmania University is finally gearing up to fill 415 teaching posts in various departments. To this effect, the university has convened the Executive Council (EC) meeting on April 28 to clear the recruitment notification.“The university has convened the Executive Council meeting on April 28 and recruitment will be the major agenda,” Prof S Ramachandram, Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University told Telangana Today.
The university had last held a recruitment drive in 2012 where close to 170 teaching posts were filled. This time, the State government has accorded permission for recruiting 1,061 teaching posts in 11 State universities including Osmania University, Kakatiya University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Palamuru University, Satavahana University, Telangana University, Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies, Dr BR Ambedkar Open University, Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad.
Of these, OU has got a major share with 415 posts, including 294 assistant professors and 121 associate professor cadre. However, there are no posts for recruitment to professor cadre.
The university intends to issue the notification after the EC meeting and complete the entire process by the end of August or September. Accordingly, the varsity is working on the roster system that should be implemented in recruiting teachers.
Earlier, the University Grants Commission (UGC) had issued a circular to all university registrars asking to implement the reservation policy taking a department as a unit rather than the varsity as a unit. This circular had stalled the issuance of recruitment notifications by universities in the State.
In this backdrop, the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) has sought clarification on implementation of the new reservation policy in State universities. “We received a clarification from the Union government.
A meeting has been scheduled on Monday to arrive at a final decision on the reservation policy,” a senior TSCHE official said.
