Hopes of a cool weekend, with a few showers to make things better, had begun burning bright when weather officials predicted more rains after Thursday’s downpour.

However, ground reality appears to be different, with the mercury levels shooting up by 3.5 degrees on Saturday in comparison to Friday. On Thursday, after the showers, the temperature had dipped to 24 degree Celsius, but returned to the normal of 35.5 degree Celsius on Friday. This shot up to 39 degree Celsius on Saturday, with no noticeable rainfall activity in the city on Friday or Saturday as weather officials had predicted. If officials at the India Meteorological Department are to be believed, Sunday might be no different, with indications that the temperature might remain on the ascent.

IMD’s forecast has pegged the possible temperature for Sunday at 38 degree Celsius, with officials saying it could go up to 40 degree Celsius as well. The sharp rise of 3.5 degrees on Saturday could be an indication of what is in store for Sunday and the week ahead.Officials also said there was little chance of rainfall activity on Sunday while one or two parts in the State might receive light rainfall.
