The constable who had hosed down a man who had stumbled inside the Mangalhat police station and abused the cops earlier this month was attached to the City Armed Reserve (CAR) headquarters as punishment on Sunday.

Mangalhat inspector R. Srinivas Reddy said the man had wandered into the station in an inebriated condition at about 3.30 pm on May 6. Imagining that he had walked into a clothing store, he asked the staff for new clothes. He also threw up in the police station. In an attempt to sober him up, constable M.B.C. Shekar walked him out of the station and hosed him down with a water pipe. “He asked for clothes and our staff told him that this is not a clothing store and directed to a nearby shop. He then abused the cops and demanded that they buy him a set of cloths as the one he was wearing was spoilt,” the inspector said.

The constable escorted him out of the police station and initially thought of cleaning the vomit. Then he hosed him down with a water pipe, the inspector said.Shekar had been attached to the CAR headquarters as a punishment for his act, said additional inspector N. Ramu. “The act was noted as an offence even though the man came in drunk and senior officials took the decision,” said the official.

There was no need for the constable to waterwash the drunk man, said the ACP Goshamahal, M. Narender Reddy. “The police constable, Shekar, could have simply booked an auto or something for the drunkard to take him to the hospital. Instead, he made him stand out and hosed him down himself” said the official.
