HSPA has demanded the postponement of the start of the academic year

Despite the government ordering half-day schools till June 8, the Hyderabad School Parents Association has demanded the postponement of the start of the academic year to the second week of June due to the prevailing heat conditions.

The state government had issued a circular on Wednesday instructing all the schools to run for half a day from June 4 to June 8. The association had requested the commissioner and director of school education to postpone the reopening in view of the weather conditions so that lakhs of children are not affected.HSPA member Pavan Reddy said, “Schools used to reopen after the summer vacations in the second week of June. This was the norm was adapted to suit to the summer climatic conditions of our region.”

“As per the Indian Meteorological Centre-Hyderabad website, the temperature is about 40°C and it is likely to stay so for the next week,” he added. “We request the commissioner and director of school education to examine the current extreme weather conditions and postpone the schools reopening to the second week of June so that children in the state are not affected by the heat,” Mr Pawan Reddy said.
