Former Congress MP V. Hanumantha Rao has demanded that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao announce Rs 5 lakh exgratia to the family of each farmer who committed suicide and withdrawal of cases relating to agitations by SC and ST groups on State Formation Day.

In a letter to the Chief Minister on Friday, Mr Hanumantha Rao said there were 3,600 cases of suicide by farmers. SC and ST persons were being oppressed with false cases. He said that Bangaru Telangana was not just a celebration but should be meant for the welfare and well-being of the downtrodden and weaker sections.

He said for the last four years the state government had not done anything for welfare of farmers, but was trying to attract them now with the elections approaching.
