Srikantha Chary was the first to sacrifice his life for the cause of a separate Telangana

Disappointed that she was called last at the felicitation ceremony for martyrs’ families as part of the State formation day celebrations here on Saturday, Shankaramma, mother of Kasoju Srikantha Chary, said the act was “nothing but an insult.”

“My son was the first to sacrifice his life for the cause of a separate Telangana, and you insult him like this,” Ms. Shankaramma said and left the stage, even as chief guest and Aler MLA Gongidi Sunitha and others tried to make her stay.The celebrations being attended by Bhongir MP Bura Narsaiah Goud and others at the Government Boys Junior College here became a bitter-point of conflict, as the aggrieved kept saying that the local leaders were responsible for the negligence.

“Chief Minister KCR garu has always given due recognition to martyrs by giving benefits to their kin, but those at the district level don’t respect us,” Ms. Shankaramma later said, interacting with the media.

Ms. Sunitha admitted that mistakes had crept in in preparing the schedule and the speech, but it was inadvertent and would not be repeated.In the evening, Ms. Shankaramma met Minister for Energy and SC Development G. Jagadish Reddy at Suryapet on the issue. She would also meet the Chief Minister to explain her situation to him, Ms. Shankaramma told the media.
