Governament providing water to 24 lakh acres in the state: Harish

The Telangana government is doing wonders in the irrigation sector by providing water to 24 lakh acres in the state, irrigation minister T Harish Rao said.

Heaping praise on chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, he called him a social engineer in redesigning irrigation projects and resolving issues with neighbouring states like Maharashtra on projects like Penganga.

Speaking at the state-level conference on Telangana irrigation projects on Thursday, the minister said the state has set an example for the rest of the country. He said this has been possible due to the redesigning of projects, completing of pending projects, implementation of Mission Kakatiya and adoption of water management methods.

"While the Maharashtra government started Mission Kakatiya recently, BJP has put it in its poll manifesto, calling it Mission Kalyani in Karnataka. Union minister Uma Bharathi started this programme in Bundelkhand. Even research scholars of Michigan University have done research on this," the minister said."The Congress government could provide water to 5.71 acres in 10 years. Some parties claim they have 60 years' experience in governance, but many projects were incomplete. This year alone, the TRS government achieved results and provided water to 13 lakh acres under Nagarjunsagar, Sriramsagar and Pochampad projects," he said.

Chief secretary SK Joshi, Jukkal MLA Hanmanth Shinde, CMO officer on special duty Deshapathi Srinivas and a farmer from Suryapet Venkat Reddy spoke.
